The GS FAME Institute of Business Hayam Wuruk campus celebrated its annual Intercultural Day on Thursday,
June 4, 2009. This year’s celebration was conducted with various GS FAME student clubs’ representations of
three (3) cultures: The Egyptian Culture which was presented by the Accounting and Finance Clubs, while
the Hawaiian Culture was presented by the English and Management Clubs and the Indian Culture to be
presented by the Marketing Club and the Fellowship Group.
The program started with a good portrayal of the Egyptian Culture. The Accounting and Finance clubs
officers and members showed their acting prowess through the dramatization of Cleopatra, the Queen of Egypt.
The short play was conducted inside a tent shaped and painted to appear like a pyramid. The group impressed
the audience with their acting and with their Egyptian costumes and accessories.
After the Egyptian drama, the English and Management Clubs started their cultural presentation of Hawaii
with some educational facts about Hawaii. Right after the presentation, the group entertained the audience with
the Hula Dance by the tune of “He Mene No Lilo”, a popular Hawaiian song from the animated movie “Lilo and Stitch”.
The group’s cultural presentation ended with a unique type of Hawaiian fashion show.
The last group of the Marketing Club and Fellowship Group presented the culture of India. They also started
with some cultural presentations about India. They performed a very entertaining Indian dance and the crowd
enjoyed their graceful moves and choreography.
After the three cultural presentations, an Intercultural Fashion Show was put into motion with four
(4) pairs of contestants. The first pair is the brother and sister team-up of Maria and Thomas Harliyono and
they showed-up with their traditional Indonesian apparel. The second pair were Jenny and Martin in their Egyptian
costumes followed by Agnes and Edward in their Hawaiian costumes. The fashion show ended with Sri and Max in
their traditional Indian dress. Maria and Thomas won the first prize for the fashion show followed by Sri and
Max as runners-up.
After tabulating the results gathered from the judges, namely: Ms. Peggy Rosaline, Mr. Resty, Mr. Ronaldo
and Mr. Christopher Cura, the Student Council through the president, Viggo Christianto, announced the team of
Marketing Club and Fellowship Group representing the Indian culture as the grand prize winner for the best cultural
presentation. The Egyptian cultural group of Accounting and Finance Club won the second place. The event was
ended by a graceful performance from the Hayam Wuruk Modern Dance Group.
